In Bloons Tower Defense 3, the third installment brings new features! Place monkeys, pineapple bombs, and needle shooters to pop balloons. This version introduces 3 difficulty modes and multiple unlockable tracks. Experiment with new tower combinations and upgrade paths. Special balloons like camo and lead bloons require specific towers to pop them effectively!
Bloons Tower Defense 3 (BTD3) marks a significant evolution in the beloved tower defense series, introducing multiple tracks, three difficulty modes, and an expanded roster of towers. Released in 2008 by Ninja Kiwi, BTD3 refined the core gameplay formula while adding depth that would influence all future installments. Players can now choose from various maps with different layouts, each requiring unique strategies. The introduction of specialty bloons like Camo and Lead added new layers of challenge, forcing players to diversify their tower selections. With its polished mechanics and addictive progression system, BTD3 became one of the most played Flash games of its era.
BTD3 uses a simple but effective economy system where players earn cash by popping bloons. Each tower has a base cost and can be upgraded along two paths, significantly increasing its effectiveness. The game features 3 difficulty modes - Easy, Medium, and Hard - each affecting bloon speed, health, and the amount of cash earned. Multiple tracks can be unlocked by completing previous stages, with harder tracks offering greater rewards. Specialty bloons include Lead (immune to sharp objects), Camo (invisible to most towers), and Ceramic (extra tough outer shell). Lives are lost when bloons reach the end of the track, with different bloon types costing different amounts of lives.
The backbone of any defense. Cheap and effective for early rounds. Upgrades include Long Range Darts and Piercing Darts for improved coverage.
Strategy: Start every game with 2-3 Dart Monkeys. Upgrade to Piercing Darts to handle grouped bloons efficiently.
Shoots 8 tacks in all directions, perfect for curves and intersections. Upgrade to Faster Shooting or Blade Shooter for maximum area denial.
Strategy: Place at sharp corners where bloons slow down. Blade Shooter upgrade is excellent value for mid-game.
Throws boomerangs that curve back, hitting bloons twice. Glaive Thrower upgrade turns it into a deadly multi-target eliminator.
Strategy: Position where the boomerang path intersects the track twice. Glaive Thrower is a cost-effective DPS option.
Explosive damage that can pop Lead bloons. Essential for handling grouped bloons and armored types. Missile Launcher upgrade increases range and damage.
Strategy: Your primary answer to Lead bloons. Place near Ice Towers to maximize damage on frozen clusters.
Freezes bloons in place, allowing other towers to deal damage. Snap Freeze upgrade pops bloons when frozen. Cannot affect White or Zebra bloons.
Strategy: Pair with Bomb Towers for devastating combos. Remember it can't freeze White or Zebra bloons!
The ultimate tower with incredibly fast attack speed. Expensive but devastating. Laser Vision and Plasma Vision upgrades make it unstoppable.
Strategy: Save up and place one by round 35-40. Laser Vision lets it pop Lead. One Super Monkey can carry late-game.
Support tower that increases attack speed and range of nearby towers. Crucial for maximizing your defense's efficiency in later rounds.
Strategy: Place near your best towers. Camo detection upgrade is essential for handling invisible bloons.
Places spikes on the track that pop passing bloons. Great for catching bloons that slip through. Upgrades increase spike production and damage.
Strategy: Place at the track exit as a safety net. Upgraded spike factories can handle significant leak.
Start with the 'Beginner' track to learn the basics - its long winding path gives you plenty of time to build your defense. 'Intermediate' maps feature shorter paths and multiple routes, requiring more strategic tower placement. 'Advanced' tracks have very short paths with limited building spots, demanding efficient use of every tower. Always place towers at curves where they can hit bloons multiple times. In Hard mode, prioritize income-generating strategies early and transition to high-damage towers for later rounds. Save up for Super Monkey if you need to reach the highest rounds.
Place Tack Shooters and Boomerang Throwers at tight curves where bloons spend the most time. This maximizes damage per tower and lets you stretch your early-game budget further.
Pair Ice Towers with Bomb Towers for devastating crowd control. Freeze bloons in clusters, then let Bomb Towers deal massive area damage. This combo handles both regular and Lead bloons efficiently.
Place multiple Monkey Beacons near your most powerful towers, especially Super Monkeys. The attack speed bonuses stack, turning already fast towers into bloon-shredding machines.
For Hard mode and beyond, focus on surviving early rounds with minimal spending. Save cash to afford a Super Monkey with Plasma Vision by round 40. One fully upgraded Super Monkey can handle most late-game threats.
Lead bloons are immune to sharp projectiles. Use Bomb Towers for explosive damage, or upgrade your towers with lead-popping capabilities. Super Monkeys with Laser Vision can also pop Lead bloons.
Camo bloons are invisible to most towers and can sneak past your defenses. Use Monkey Beacons with the Camo Detection upgrade to reveal them for nearby towers, or place Spike Factories at the end of the track as a safety net.
Complete existing tracks on any difficulty to unlock new ones. Harder tracks generally require completing easier maps first. Each track offers a unique layout that challenges different aspects of your strategy.
Easy mode gives more starting cash and lives, with slower bloons. Medium is the standard experience. Hard mode features faster bloons, reduced cash income, and fewer starting lives - only for experienced players!
Start with 2-3 Dart Monkeys covering the early path, then add a Tack Shooter at a curve. Save for a Bomb Tower by round 10 to handle Lead bloons. Gradually build up to a Super Monkey for late-game dominance.
