Every BTD game shares the same core concept: bloons (balloons) travel along a path, and you must pop them before they reach the exit. Place monkey towers along the path to attack passing bloons. Each popped bloon earns money to buy more towers or upgrades. Bloons come in different colors indicating their strength—red bloons pop in one hit, while blue, green, yellow, and pink require progressively more damage. Some bloons contain other bloons inside (like blue containing red), creating chain-pop mechanics. Later games introduce special bloons like Camo (invisible to most towers), Lead (immune to sharp objects), and the dreaded MOAB-class bloons that take massive damage to destroy.
The iconic starter tower. Throws darts at bloons with decent range and attack speed. Cheap and reliable.
Strategy: Perfect for early waves. Place at path curves for maximum coverage. Upgrade to Super Monkey Fan Club for late-game viability.
Shoots 8 tacks in all directions. Short range but devastating when bloons pass directly over it.
Strategy: Place at path intersections or tight corners where bloons bunch up. Ring of Fire upgrade melts everything.
Launches explosive bombs dealing area damage. Essential for grouped bloons and Lead bloons.

BTD 1 (2007): The original that started it all. 8 tower types, simple mechanics, pure addictive gameplay. BTD 2 (2007): Added more towers, upgrade paths, and challenging new tracks. BTD 3 (2008): Introduced specialty buildings, more bloon types, and three difficulty modes per track. BTD 4 (2009): Revolutionary sequel with 20+ towers, MOAB-class bloons, specialty buildings, and endless challenge modes. BTD 5 (2011): Added co-op multiplayer, daily challenges, and the most towers yet. BTD 6 (2018): 3D graphics, hero units, and the deepest upgrade system in the series.
Don't overspend early. Use cheap towers like Dart Monkeys to survive initial waves while saving for powerful mid-game towers. Banana Farms (in later games) multiply your income exponentially.
Combine towers for maximum effect: Ice Tower + Bomb Tower freezes bloons for explosive damage. Glue Gunner + high-damage towers slow bloons for more hits. Village tower buffs all nearby towers.
Always have detection for Camo bloons (Ninja Monkey, village upgrade, or Monkey Sub). Lead bloons require explosive or fire damage—plan accordingly or face leaks.
MOAB-class bloons appear in later waves and require focused damage. MOAB Maulers, Super Monkeys, and abilities are essential. Don't panic—slow them with Glue or Ice and burst them down.
Start with BTD 4 for the classic experience with enough depth to be engaging, or jump straight to BTD 6 for the most polished modern version. BTD 1-3 are great for nostalgia but more limited.
Super Monkey is generally the strongest single tower, but it's expensive. For value, Ninja Monkey and Wizard are excellent. The best strategy uses tower combinations rather than relying on one.
Use MOAB Mauler bombs, Super Monkeys, or abilities. Slow them with Glue Gunner or Ice Tower. In later games, MOAB Assassin ability can one-shot them. Always have a backup plan for the bloons inside.
Camo bloons are invisible to most towers. Counter them with Ninja Monkey (natural detection), village with Radar Scanner upgrade, or Monkey Sub with Advanced Intel. Always plan for Camo rounds.
